Manaia Kawakawa-Greenstone Guardian Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

Manaia, a powerful personal guardian in Māori tradition, embodies mana – the concept of power, authority, and prestige. Believed to possess ethereal presence and energy, the manaia protects its wearer and maintains spiritual balance. In Māori cosmology, the manaia is often depicted as a kaitiaki (protector) and messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

This taonga was hand-carved by Jeremy Walsh from kawakawa pounamu, sourced from Arahura of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa, engraved with unaunahi and inlaid with paua eyes and red wax. It measures 95mm by 50mm, has a semi-gloss finish and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
