Rei Puta Inanga- Greenstone Tooth Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

Often considered descendants of Tangaroa, whales whakapapa to Māori and are highly regarded tūpuna (ancestors) symbolising abundance and strength. Rei puta symbolise this connection, with the carver taking the form of the rei niho parāoa (sperm whale tooth) and infusing it with their own inspiration.

This rei puta was carved by Jeremy Walsh from Inanga pounamu sourced from Arahura of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 125mm by 56mm, notched and engraved with unaunahi, inlaid with paua eye. This taonga has semi-gloss finish and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
