Manaia Ūpokohue - Whale Bone Guardian Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

Manaia, a powerful personal guardian in Māori tradition, embodies mana – the concept of power, authority, and prestige. Believed to possess ethereal presence and energy, the manaia protects its wearer and maintains spiritual balance. In Māori cosmology, the manaia is often depicted as a kaitiaki (protector) and messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

This manaia was carved by Mahony Tupou from whale bone sourced from Aotearoa. It is engraved with whakarei and has inlaid paua eyes. It measures 148mm by 59mm, has a semi-gloss finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
