Roimata Black Marsden Raukaraka with Sterling Silver Cap - Greenstone Teardrop Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

The roimata embodies our emotions in times of joy, sadness, celebration and tribulation. Traditionally made from pounamu adzes or similar tools that were too worn down to be functional, they were gifted as a way of remembering the history and tūpuna (ancestors). They remind us of our humanity, and our ability to overcome adversity even when the path is spiritually difficult.

This roimata was carved by Jeremy Walsh from black Marsden raukaraka pounamu sourced from Marsden of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa, set with sterling silver capped by John Mayo. It measures 62mm by 15mm, has a glossy finish and is hung on a  925 sterling silver chain.
