Kākā Pōria Kawakawa - Greenstone Bird Ring

Kākā pōria were originally leg rings used on captive birds kept as prized possessions, kept for their song and to attract other Kākā (native parrots) and manu (birds) from afar. Today these pendants are given as tohu (a token) to an orator, singer, or close friend.
This kākā pōria was carved by Jeremy Walsh from Kawakawa pounamu sourced from Marsden of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 52mm x 41mm, has a semi-gloss finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
