Rei Puta Inanga - Greenstone Tooth Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

Often considered descendants of Tangaroa, whales whakapapa to Māori and are highly regarded tūpuna (ancestors) symbolising abundance and strength. Rei puta symbolise this connection, with the carver taking the form of the rei niho parāoa (sperm whale tooth) and infusing it with their own inspiration.

This Rei puta was carved by Jeremy Walsh from Inanga pounamu sourced from Marsden of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 65mm by 25mm. This taonga has notches, paua inlay, semi-gloss finish and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
