Rei Puta symbolise this connection, with the carver taking the form of the Rei Niho parāoa (sperm whale tooth) and infusing it with their own inspiration.
This Rei Puta was carved by Jeremy Walsh from Kōkopu pounamu sourced from Arahura of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 105mm by 99mm with niho taniwha whakarei. This taonga has semi-gloss finish and is bound with an fixed length hand-braided muka cord measuring at 43mm with a pounamu toggle.
