Traditional Maori heru are combs worn as functional hair ornaments by both men and women. Often the decorations on pre-European heru were a symbol of mana and prestige.
This heru was carved by Jeremy Walsh from inanga pounamu sourced from Big Bay of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 135mm by 60mm and has a semi gloss finish.
