Manaia Raukaraka - Greenstone Guardian Pendant

Sands Carving Studio

Manaia, a powerful personal guardian in Māori tradition, embodies mana – the concept of power, authority, and prestige. Believed to possess ethereal presence and energy, the manaia protects its wearer and maintains spiritual balance. In Māori cosmology, the manaia is often depicted as a kaitiaki (protector) and messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

This Manaia was hand carved by Jeremy Walsh from Raukaraka pounamu sourced from Arahura of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa, with unaunahi whakarei, whakapapa notches and inlaid with a notched paua eye on one side and a red wax eye on the other side. It measures 146mm by 85mm, has a semi-gloss finish and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
