Roimata Kahurangi - Greenstone Spiral Pendant

The roimata embodies our emotions in times of joy, sadness, celebration and tribulation. Traditionally made from pounamu adzes or similar tools that were too worn down to be functional, they were gifted as a way of remembering the history and tūpuna (ancestors). They remind us of our humanity, and our ability to overcome adversity even when the path is spiritually difficult. The mangopare on this taonga would represent a younger sibling within the whanau.
This Roimata was carved by Aaron Marshall from Kahurangi pounamu sourced from Marsden of Te Wai Pounamu, Aotearoa. It measures 43mm x 35mm, adorned with mangopare kowhaiwhai, it has a semi-gloss finish, and is bound with an adjustable hand-braided cord.
